Acts 19:21-41 – A Mindless Mob

Introduction

Raucous Riots!

 The Way

When the church effectively spreads the gospel, Satan will arouse opposition (19:23-34)

A disturbance about decent citizens

Raucous riots follow radical repentance

People oppose the gospel because Satan blinds their minds and the gospel confronts their sinful lifestyles (19:23-41)

People oppose the gospel because Satan blinds their minds to the glory of Christ

People oppose the gospel because it confronts their sinful lifestyles

“Not only does the message of the gospel convict sinners but the lives of those who believe the gospel confront sinners”

“You can engage in idolatry without statues”

Conclusion

The demise of Ephesus

Questions:

1) When have you experienced pushback or criticism because of your faith? What might that reveal about how actively you are living for Christ?

2) Paul reminded the Ephesians that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood.” How does remembering the reality of spiritual warfare shape the way you respond to hostility or opposition?

3) The Ephesian church changed the city not through protest but through transformed lives. Do you tend to rely more on outward activism or inner spiritual power to bring about change?

4) Paul’s message was clear — “gods made with hands are no gods at all.” Why do you think so many people still fail to see the truth about false gods today, and how can you pray and act to help them “see”?

5) The sermon said we must be “heralds, not haters; speakers, not shouters.” What might need to change in your attitude, tone, or approach when you share the gospel with others?

6) The sermon closed with the warning about the slow build-up of “silt” cutting Ephesus off from life. What small compromises or “harmless” habits could be quietly silting up your spiritual vitality today?
