Introduction
A vote of no confidence
Jesus is Lord and King (12:35-37)
“Son of David” and “Messiah”
“Yahweh” and “Adonai”
Three things to note:
- David calls Him his Lord
- This Lord sits at God’s right hand
- This Lord will have all things subject to Him
Case Study One: When you act like you are lord and king (12:38-40)
A pretence to godliness
The trumpeters
Case Study Two: When you act knowing Jesus is Lord and King (12:41-44)
She is the fruitful fig tree
She is the faithful tenant
She renders her due
She focuses on the future
She loves the Lord fully
Questions: How does Jesus unpack Psalm 110? What point is he seeking to make and why is it so important? What are the implications of Psalm 110 for our discipleship? What is the real problem with the teachers of the law? Why is that so serious? Why do you do what you do? Is it driven by love of the Lord Jesus, motivated by a desire to see His Kingdom grow and His name be exalted? In what ways is the widow an example of a true disciples? What challenged you as we unpacked the widow’s devotion and love? If Jesus was watching and pointing to you what would be the lesson?
