Overcoming Bitterness – Hebrews 12:14-17


            Rabies – on being bitten


“See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” (Hebrews 12:15)


Unearthing Bitterness


            How is bitterness planted?




            How does bitterness grow?


                        Dominates you mentally


                        Depresses you emotionally


                        Destroys you spiritually




Uprooting Bitterness


            Pursue Fellowship



            Promote Forgetfulness



            Practise Forgiveness


                        Freely – Fully - Finally






Questions: How would you define bitterness? Unpack and examine this statement: “Bitterness is harboured hurt hidden in the heart”. How does bitterness take root in our hearts and lives? What does bitterness do to a person? Where will the destructive power of bitterness be manifest? Considering the life of Joseph, what reasons did he have to be bitter and how did he overcome bitterness in his life? What lessons can we learn about dealing with bitterness from Psalm 73:21-26? What antidotes to bitterness are found in Ephesians 4:31-32? How is it that forgiveness deals such a sledgehammer blow to bitterness?
