Introduction

            Love – Rescued, Restored, Replenished

 

            Jerome and the Apostle John

 

‘God is love’ (4:7-8)

 

            God is the source of all love

 

 

 

 

‘God is love’ was shown (4:9-10)

 

            God is the standard of all love

 

                        His love was seen in giving us life

 

                       

 

                        His love was seen in giving His life

 

 

‘God is love’ was shown and must be seen (4:11-12)

 

            “Ought”

Conclusion

            Your shadow and God’s love

 

Questions: What do we mean when we say: ‘God is love’? What does this reveal about God and how does that distinguish Him from the gods of religions? What assurances are gained from knowing that ‘God is love’? Why is it vital to know that we are ‘loved’ (past tense)? How does knowing this affect the believer? How does the love of Christ displayed at the cross shape our love for one another? Explore the categories of cares, bears and shares in relation to our love for one another? Are there areas in your life where you are casting a shadow and obscuring the love of God? What can be done about them?
