Joshua 2 – Spies, Spies and more Spies

Introduction

            Choosing teams

                                    Structure of Joshua 2

What did the spies discover?

What did Rahab discover?

            She is an outsider

            She is an outright pagan

            She has an outlandish occupation

            The might of Yahweh (2:10)

            The majesty of Yahweh (2:11)

            The mercy of Yahweh (2:12-13)

What does the reader discover?

God’s grace takes people in hard places and lifts them to high places

Salvation means choosing to side with Jesus

Blood must be shed if salvation is to be possible

Conclusion

Questions: In what ways are we tempted to change teams? What will help us remain committed and loyal to Jesus even when we are in the heart of enemy territory? In what ways does the LORD go about strengthening our assurance in the promises He has made? How is God’s grace displayed in this passage? What do we learn about the grace of God from Joshua 2? Hebrews 11:31 and James 2:25-26 both mention Rahab? What do they focus upon and what does this teach us? The passage makes us think about the ‘fear or faith’ responses to God’s word – what does this mean for our discipleship? How does the ‘fear or faith’ response work out in our daily lives? Think about what Rahab discovered about the LORD (might, majesty, mercy) – do you consider these essential elements in coming to faith? Why/why not?
