Jeremiah 12:1-17 – Perseverance when life is Perplexing
Introduction
The window of the heart
Can I have a word!? (12:1-4)
Why do the wicked prosper? (v1-3a)
How can you be so patient? (12:3b-4)
Yes, here is your answer (12:5-6)
How can you persevere? (v5)
Will you live cautiously or courageously?
Why not think about it from my perspective? (12:7-13)
Having things in common:
I am concerned with the ultimate and immediate (12:14-17)
Questions:
1) When have you experienced a “cracked window”—a moment of pain or disappointment that distorted your view of God? How did you respond?
2) Like Jeremiah, have you ever questioned why those who ignore God seem to prosper while you struggle to be faithful? How did you bring your complaint to God?
3a) How do you react when your efforts for God seem fruitless or even lead to personal cost? 3b) What does this reveal about your expectations of serving God?
4a) God challenged Jeremiah to “run with horses” when he was weary running with men. What are the “footmen” in your life that are wearing you down? 4b) How might God be preparing you for greater challenges?
5a) When facing difficulties, do you pray for a lighter load or for a stronger back? 5b) How can you shift your prayers to seek God’s strength rather than escape?
