‘Judgment’s a Comin’’ 2 Peter 2:3b-10a
Introduction: Duck and Cover
Judgement is not Sleeping v.3b
Fallen Angels: Cosmic Judgement v.4
Flooded World: Global Judgement v.5
Filthy Cities: Local Judgement v.6
What happened then – still happens today! Vv.9-10a
Questions: What reasons have you had for people disbelieving God’s Judgement? Where do we see forbidden relationships occurring today? What reasons might people give for believing that they are beyond God’s judgement? In what ways were the people in Noah’s day similar to the people in our day? Where in your Christian life do you feel as if you’re ‘Building Boats in the Desert’? In what ways can judgement today fall ‘locally’, ‘quickly’ and without warning’? How does the wickedness around you and the imminence of judgement on it, affect you in your Christian life? How do these examples of judgement (vv.3b-10a) relate to all the previous verses we’ve looked at so far? How does this encourage or convict you?
Pray it in:
Father in heaven let me remain ever humble before you, recognising my position is not of my own effort or character but was gracious gift from you. Let me never believe myself to be superior or answerable only to myself – but to you alone my creator and Lord.
Help me not to lose heart O’God as I witness among a multitude of mockers. Though my friends, family and colleagues scoff at your generous salvation – have mercy on them and give me the courage and strength to not give up till the final day.
Lord, we acknowledge that the only thing that separates us from world’s condemnation is your imputed righteousness. Cause us to see and feel things the way you do and give us courage to speak out and a zeal to rescue the lost.
